Humans and Mother Nature are at it again.  We just seem to think it is new and special to our generation.  It isn’t.  Long before the earthquake in Japan and its subsequent tsunami, we had lost cities and entire nations.   History books are full of ancient cities and nations that have been lost to cataclysmic events.   Most of these were probably beyond control of human intervention.  It would be definitely smarter, however, to stop putting heavily populated areas at the foot of volcanoes or building houses on the cliffs over the edge of the sea.  Are we getting smarter, complacent or sloppy?

The tsunami was an event that we had no control over.  If the earth wants to move it will.  If we are going to use nuclear power, is it smart to build it in a heavily earthquake prone area and then not monitor it …

We Really Are Taming Ourselves

Do not lose heart!  When you see and hear these dramatic headlines, soundbites and truth twisters, there is the normal reaction to think that nothing is changing.   It consistently appears that one group of humans is destroying another group of humans.  Hasn’t it always been that way?  The answer to that question is no; it was actually worse.

We are getting better and we are taming ourselves.  As we look back over humankind’s time on this earth, you will see that as society changes, develops systems that favor trade, law, commerce, education and improved standards, evolutionary changes in the genes of behavior are taking place.   Scientists have found that there is a genetic mechanism for bringing about quick evolutionary change in a gene for behavior.   Remember that the peaceful Scandinavians of today were once the fierce Vikings of the tenth century.

America is in Rehab

Move forward but with proceed with caution!

Although I would like to say that the recent incident in Tucson was an isolated incident by a mentally ill young man, I believe it is an outcome of some of the changes that I have mentioned in previous writings.  America’s social contract will be changed during the next 20 years and we, as a nation, will have to decide who we are as a country.

America will have some really challenging times during the next two years as transits go in and out of her chart.  Much of what we are experiencing today is a throw back to what was started in the ‘60s.  This was a time of social injustice corrections, riots, the Vietnam War, women controlling their own bodies with birth control pills, Medicare and Head Start.  It was revolutionary and it is being played …
